European Metaverse Vision – Can Europe Lead in the METAVERSE?

The Metaverse is a very active space of Global innovation both in terms of technology and services. We believe that Europe has a unique opportunity to lead in this exciting domain and enable new revenues, new jobs and overall value to society. 

This discussion will focus on identifying these strengths but also what additional steps and actions are needed to focus and accelerate this evolution and give Europe a winning momentum. 

The goal of this workshop is to have a rounded discussion guided by the organisers’ vision to see how we can use signifficant strengths of Europe to formulate the practical steps for living in a Metaverse in Europe. We aim to identify steps and actions that will accelerate Europe’s presence and success in the Metaverse ecosystem, contributing to new revenues, job opportunities, and social value.

The workshop will be lead by Christina Yan Zhang, CEO of Metaverse Institute, Leonidas Anthopoulos, Professor, Department of Business Administration at University of Thessaly and Marios Nicolaou, Business Development Director at P-NET.

Europe has several strengths which can be utilized and enabled to help in this highly competitive journey. These strengths are:

• A plethora of Historic, Archeological, and Touristic content (Parthenon, Colosseum, the Louvre etc.). No other region has so many locations, museums, historical events etc.
• A wide range of young artists, digital artists, gaming startups, historians, tour guides etc.
• Several large and small technology companies who are directly developing solutions (for example Nokia, Varjo, BMW, Airbus, Wartsila, Balenciaga etc.).
• Many already ongoing EU funded programs which are exploring metaverse enabling technologies, including 6G, Edge, XR and other relevant emerging technologies.
