Bridging Baltic excellence through advancing regional cooperation in the electronics and communications industry
The chip industry is currently one of the most important in electronics and telecommunications, as chips are the main component base in virtually all modern electronic devices. From smartphones and computers to cars and telecommunications network infrastructure, chips are a critical element that enables devices to function and transmit data. Therefore, the topic of the chip industry is inseparable from the development of the electronics and telecommunications industry.
The Baltic States have developed common competencies that form the region’s strength. However, each country also retains its unique characteristics. The cooperation of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia can strengthen the region’s position in the world market and help each country preserve its national identity.
The event will begin with brief presentations from representatives of each Baltic country, highlighting their national competencies in microelectronics.
Presenters:
Jaan Raik – Professor at Tallinn University of Technology and the Coordinator of Estonian Chips Competence Centre initiative.
Andris Anspoks – Director at Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia
Rihards Novickis – Senior researcher and head of Integrated Circuits and Systems laboratory, Institute of Electronics and Computer Science
Sandis Spolītis – Professor at Institute of Photonics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Riga Technical University
State Research Institute Physical and Technological Sciences Center
Following the presentations, we will hold a panel discussion “Baltic TechCollab: Regional Collaboration in Microelectronics” with representatives from the region to explore key challenges, opportunities, and paths for cooperation in this dynamic sector.
Moderator:
Nikita Kazakevics – Ecosystem Cooperation Manager, Innovation Development Divison at LMT
Speakers:
Jaan Raik – Professor at Tallinn University of Technology and the Coordinator of Estonian Chips Competence Centre initiative.
Renata Liubinavice – sector coordinator and facilator at ManuFuture Lab based with Inovation Agency Lithunia for lasers and photonics as well as chips and microelectronics sectors
Haralds Abolins – Semiconductor Strategy Manager, Riga Technical University
The event aims to unify the electronics and telecommunications ecosystems of the Baltic States. It will present the competencies of universities and research institutes and promote closer cooperation with industry representatives from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
The auditorium will have a limited number of seats, so only one representative from each institution will be able to participate. A registration form will be created soon.
Location – ATTA Centre, Event Room “N”.

*Chip industry in Latvia is included in RIS3 key area Photonics and Smart Materials, Technologies and Engineering Systems. This is one of the five RIS3 (Smart specialization strategy) areas in Latvia. This event is very important for chip industry and electronics and telecommunications as an ecosystem to progress in the near future. This event is managed by Investment and Development Agency of Latvia under Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) project Nr. 5.1.1.1.i.0/1/23/I/EM/002 “Pilnvērtīga inovāciju sistēmas pārvaldības modeļa izstrāde un tā nepārtraukta darbināšana” (Development and continuous operation of a fully-fledged innovation system governance model).
