5G Techritory 2020–the third-annual Baltic Sea Region 5G ecosystem forum –will put a spotlight on a year of experience after the tentative rollout of 5G technology in the region. This year’s 5G Techritory will be held virtually through a custom-built digital conferencing platform. The event’s focus will be retrospective, yet with a course set towards the future–what needs to be done to accelerate 5G innovations.

This year’s topic: “A year of 5G: Learning from experience, adjusting for the future”
A year ago when we met at 5G Techritory 2019, we were discussing the expectations for a massive and innovative industry shift as mobile operators were gearing up for rolling out 5G. A year has passed, countless operators have introduced 5G, and yet we haven’t seen the rapid adoption. After one year of 5G, we’ll be looking at what went wrong, what went well, and how to move forward.
Considering 4G was launched for the first time in 2009, we can conclude that it will also take 5G a good 10 years to become the mainstream connection. But what if we can speed that up? Knowing what we know now, and collaborating early on, perhaps we can collectively move the dial on 5G adoption and commercialization.
And that’s what 5G Techritory is all about – bringing the various stakeholders together for accelerated decisionmaking and collaboration to ultimately make Europe and the Baltic Sea Region more competitive in the telecommunications industry.
Unique discussions with leading stakeholders
Alongside exploring and discussing the ongoing questions of Europe’s legal tech infrastructure–laws, regulations and necessities for enhancing the stakeholder collaboration–this year’s Techritory is going to look at unique experiences of industry professionals. Telecom operators have been working with 5G for a year now, while vendors and chip designers have been using 5G tech for two and three years respectively. All those involved can provide fresh viewpoints on the processes of the industry and share important insights on facing and overcoming industry challenges.
Moved to a digital platform, 2020’s 5G Techritory will feature speakers from such industry-leading corporations as Nokia, Qualcomm, DOCOMO, AT&T and more. Other influential organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), and the 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA) will be represented at the event. The political industry will be represented by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the European Commission, as well as various leaders from the Baltic Sea Region.
5G Techritory 2020 aims to seek and share answers to questions about the post-rollout challenges and possible ways they can be overcome so that Europe can finally become the most desired environment for developing high tech innovations. With valuable experience gathered and challenges acknowledged, it’s just about time to ameliorate Europe’s high tech innovations’ environment so it can begin harvesting the fruits and offering them to the rest of the world.
