Rui L. Aguiar received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2001 from the University of Aveiro, where he currently works as a professor. He has been an adjunct professor at the INI, Carnegie Mellon University, and a visiting research scholar at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. Alongside that Rui was an advisory for the portuguese Secretaria de Estado das Comunicações, addressing portuguese 5G policy.
Rui founded the ATNOG research group, an advanced telecommunication research group at the Universidade de Aveiro (with about 12 PhDs), and is currently co-coordinating a research line in Instituto de Telecomunicações, on the area of Networks and Services.
Additionally, Rui is a Chartered Engineer, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of ACM. He is serving as the Steering Board Chair of Networld Europe, the European Technology Platform on communications. Rui has served as Technical and General (co)Chair of several conferences (ICNS, ICT, ISCC, Mobiarch, Monami, NTMS, etc) and is an associated editor of several journals.
